In Christ Alone

In Christ Alone

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
‘Til on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt of life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life’s first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
‘til He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand

Link: Dyson Airblade vs. Excel Xlerator

The Dyson Airblade vs. The Excel Xlerator on One Foot Tsunami:

Like the Airblade, the Xlerator is automatically activated and energy-efficient, matching Dyson’s “80% less energy than regular hand dryers” claim. The similarities end there, however, because this is not some expensive English fop of a hand dryer.

No, the Xlerator is made right here in the good ol’ US of A, and it’ll set you back just 400 bucks. Instead of an overwrought solution, the Xlerator carries on our proud tradition of sticking an enormous freaking engine in there to get the job done. When you shove your sopping mitts under an Xlerator, its vacuum blower motor will automatically spin at 20,000 RPMs to fire a powerful jet of warm air directly down onto your hands at over 150 miles per hour.

Thoughts: Do Hard Things

From an essay I’m writing:

Do Hard Things is an expectation, a mindset, a lifestyle. While the title is original to the Harris twins, the concept is not. Proverbs calls it Discipline, the Kendrick brothers call it Courage, Theodore Roosevelt called it The Strenuous Life:

“[L]et us shrink from no strife, moral or physical, within or without the nation, provided we are certain that the strife is justified, for it is only through strife, through hard and dangerous endeavor, that we shall ultimately win the goal of true national greatness.”

It is truely a simple concept, but who’s applications never end.

I Heard the Bells

I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

And thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along the unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

Till ringing, singing on its way
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime, a chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

And in despair I bowed my head
“There is no peace on earth,” I said,
“For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.”

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
“God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men.”

Thoughts: Homesteading the Moon

What if the Government offered “homesteads” on the moon?

These (probably giant) tracks of land could be given (or sold/leased) to qualified parties who would then–at their own expense–travel to and establish bases on the moon for what ever commercial use they might find.

Assuming there are commercial interests to be served on the moon, this could both stimulate the commercial space industry and serve as a testing bed to develop technologies needed for longer range exploration and settlement on Mars and beyond.

Also, the ability of a single government to parcel out lunar real estate would be an issue in need of resolution for this to work.

Thoughts: Fusion Ads has been Sold

From the Fusion Blog:

It’s the end of one era, but the beginning of another. On two fronts.

As of today, Fusion Ads is now under the ownership of BuySellAds. This is a very bittersweet moment … it’s not every day that you are able to come up with an idea, launch it, and have it be a success. Building a brand from scratch is not something you hand over lightly.

But, without sounding too cliche, every good story has an ending. Both Michael and I are ready for a new page in our lives and careers. We had no specific plans in this vein, but when Todd Garland came expressing interest in adding Fusion to BuySellAds, we were both surprised and intrigued.

Wow.  Cool.  Bummer.

Whatever BSA’s efforts to maintain the Fusion brand, it’s impossible. Chris and Michael’s passion for Fusion is what made it Fusion. Without them, it’ll never be the same.

It’ll never again be the passionate project that a 16 yr old Michael explained to me in a KC Red Robbin.  As Chris said, it’s the end of an era.

Chris and Michael, I don’t know what you’ll be doing from here out, but I’m sure it’ll be Awesome.

God Bless.

Thoughts: Ron Paul’s a Kook

On Saturday, Ron Paul (or more specifically his campaign manager John Tate) sent out an(other) fundraising email. Yet again he’s complaining.

This time it’s that “national media and the political establishment” are ignoring him.

I quote:

Dear Kyle,

They’ve tried to ignore and dismiss Ron Paul.  They tried to black him out after his incredibly strong finish at the Iowa Straw Poll.

So what will the national media and the political establishment do after today’s crushing victory for Ron Paul at the Values Voters Summit Straw Poll in Washington, D.C. that was just announced a short time ago?

The truth is, Ron Paul finished with with 37% vote, more than 14% more than his closest rival, Herman Cain.  And if the media decides to cover it, this critical win should give our campaign a tremendous shot of momentum.

But the D.C. establishment is scared.  They know that polls have shown Ron Paul within striking distance of first place for the Republican nomination for President and show him DEFEATING President Obama in a head-to-head matchup.

That’s why October 19 is your opportunity to show the establishment they can no longer ignore Ron Paul by making his Black THIS Out Money Bomb a success!

So please, CLICK HERE to pledge to make a generous donation on October 19.

  1. No one likes a complainer.
  2. Saying that “national media and the political establishment” are intentionally ignoring you because their scared of you sounds like a conspiracy theory.
  3. People think conspiracy theorists are kooks.
  4. No one trusts kooks.

Now, it could be that this only seems like a conspiracy theory because of the lack of provided evidence. So I checked. Using Google Trends I compared the number of times per day that Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, Rick Perry, and Herman Cain are searched on Google. See it here.

The first part here to look at though is the small graph below. It compares the number of times per day that the candidates names were referenced in the news.  It seems Ron’s right, he’s holds less than half the mentions of Romney and less than a third the mentions of Perry. But then again, until just the past couple weeks he’s had twice as much coverage than Herman Cain.

(It should be noted though, that this graph only counts mentions in publicly available, written, online news reports. TV, Internet videos, and talk radio are not included. But, it seems reasonable to assume that the ratio of mentions would be the same.)

On the other hand, Ron Paul has consistently held the number one position in searches per day till Rick Perry announced his candidacy.  But even then Ron Paul’s numbers skyrocketed. He maintained a steady second till tying with Perry in late August. Though both he and Perry were far out shone starting Sept 23 (the day after the FOX Google debate.)  It seems that Ron Raul has still maintained a high public presence despite his relative lack of media coverage.

But the question of motive still remains, why is Paul receiving less media coverage? Maybe because his complaining on this issue isn’t the first time he looks like a kook. It’s certainly not the first time:

Ya, Ron Paul thinks the US Government might try to keep citizens in. ‘Cause, you know, the United States is close to being so bad that we would all rather be in Mexico.

This epitomizes laugh-ability.

There are so many things that would have to go wrong before someone would rather live in Mexico.

So, maybe this is why the media hasn’t given the same attention to Paul as to Perry and Romney. Or, maybe it’s for the same reason’s they haven’t been giving Cain the same attention: because he’s not (as much as) a front runner.

So, no conclusive evidence for a media conspiracy against Ron Paul. So, why’s he still complaining? And does he really expect us not to say he’s a kook for believing in an apparently groundless theory?

Also in Ron’s email:

Last quarter, Ron Paul raised $8 MILLION from over 100,000 different individuals for his presidential campaign.

[. . .]

That’s more than five times the number of donors for Governor Rick Perry’s campaign.

I have to admit, that’s pretty cool.

Quote: The Dance

Samantha Baugus on Dancing:

But now, no one dances. They don’t believe it is a good way to socialize. So instead they mill around like a bunch of fat, lazy, unimaginative slobs and get involved in a variety of illegal and ill-advised activity.   [. . .]  They wander around, trying to figure out something to do. Before, they had dance. They had music and they had dancing. They had a set of rules and guidelines to follow to interact with each other. . .
